I can’t believe Luke opened up to me like that. He looked so vulnerable as he told me the story of his late sister. The mood turning somber didn’t deter me from thinking of him in ways that make me want to shed this sweatshirt and give myself to him. I’ve only known Luke for a short time, yet it feels like so much longer—like I’ve known him my whole life. Maybe that’s why I can’t seem to control my emotions where he’s concerned. Maybe that’s why I want nothing more than to push aside our disagreements and just give myself to him. God, that’s what I wanted—to give every single part of myself to Luke.

He’s not an easy person to crack, but when he starts to shed his walls, a whole new side of him appears. And I was lucky enough to see that side firsthand.

After we finish eating the rest of our meal in silence, I reach for his empty plate and grab mine before taking them to the kitchen counter. I hate that I’ve brought up memories of his painful past so I figure he can use a few minutes to himself.

Cleaning out the sink, I begin filling it with soap and water. Not only is Luke letting me stay here while the storm rages on, but he’s also been cooking. The least I can do is the dishes for him. As I roll up my sleeves, I’m reminded that I’m still wearing Luke’s baggy sweatshirt that goes down to the bottom of my ass. It hangs off one shoulder, revealing my black bra strap. After my bath, I threw the clothes I wore here in the washer, so I’m not wearing bottoms, but then again, I like the way his gaze lingers on my legs when he doesn’t think I’m paying attention.

I hear his chair squeak against the floor as he pushes away from the table, but I don’t deviate from the task at hand even if I want to turn around and appreciate the view. My body instantly reacts with butterflies invading my stomach and my heart beating faster. Licking my suddenly dry lips, I grab a few dishes and begin soaking them in the water, my hands shaking slightly as if I can’t control myself. I need to distract myself from the dirty thoughts of him in my mind, but that’s a pointless task given the fact that’s all I’ve been thinking about where he’s concerned. The moment I feel his presence behind me, my breathing hitches.

“Can I put it in?” he asks, his mouth so close I feel his breath against my heated flesh.

“W-what?” Did he just say what I think he said?

“My glass,” he confirms. “Can I put it in the sink?” There’s a smile in his voice, and when I look down to where his hand is extended underneath my arm, I see his drinking glass.

“Oh,” I stumble, clearing my throat. “Yeah, sure.”
